New Forage and Industrial Raw-Material Plants (KF-701)

Listed in GBIF

The collection of new and unconventional forage plants comprises 300 species, forms, cultivars, and hybrids belonging to 16 families.

Description

It includes 171 perennial, 100 annual, and 13 biennial plants representing diverse botanical groups, including legumes, brassicas, amaranths, mallows, asters, and other forage crops. The collection was established to expand the range of forage resources and identify promising plant species with high productivity and ecological adaptability.

Long-term introduction and breeding studies conducted by the department have resulted in the development of about 30 new cultivars recommended for cultivation in Ukraine. These include cultivars of winter turnip rape, typhon, oilseed radish, Rumex hybrids, eastern bunias, amaranth, Jerusalem artichoke, eastern goat's rue, cup plant, and other crops. The collection provides valuable plant genetic resources for forage production, crop diversification, breeding, and the more efficient use of agroclimatic resources in Ukraine.
