Replication data for Figs 16.2 and Fig 16.3, GPDs, Mating call, Details, 23 May 202

Listed in data.InDoRES

I created this file from SYSTAT file = gpolyuc.sys, which I created on 15 Oct 2010.

Description

I assume that I checked the SYSTAT file 2X for PEFO data upon creation Date = 02 July 2022 OLD File name = GPDs, UC, MC, all 3 cols, 02 July 2022 This file now contains data from ALL THREE study colonies: PEFO, RMC, and VCC Data from RMC and VCC have been checked ONE TIME ONLY, but carefully Two mating calls were not considered separate unless they were separated by >=30 seconds.

For 2018, I have data from TWO GPDs marked 92 (323). Two GPD fems here, I think, but I have assigned same eartag to both. I use 92#1 and 92#2 for these two females.

Read the rest (7 more)

Notice that both 92#1 and 92#2 both copulated with a single female, and that neither 92#1 nor 92#2 weaned a litter. I will retain data from both females for certain statistical analyses. This file is IDENTICAL to file = GPDs, UC, MC, etc., all 3 cols, 07 July 2022 I have repeated it so that I can have a separate file for folder with MC datasets Another OLD File name = GPDs, MCs, all 3 cols, 19 July 2022 On 19 July 2022, I check all data on MCs again.

No errors found. Two changes on 19 July 2022 at end of day: Number of males that gave MC for 80 is now 3 (was 4) Number of males that gave MC for 131 is now 8 (was 9) This file ready for longterm storage on 21 March 2025. GPD = Nyanzol marker for female for RMC and VCC; GPD = numerical JLH number for PEFO One Nyanzol marker or one numerical JLH number per female per year For long-lived GPD females, I often used the same GPD Nyanzol marker for the same female in consecutive years.

I did NOT use Nyanzol markers for analysis of data in this file. Notice that MANY females did not elicit a single Mating Call MC = Mating Call Two mating calls were not considered separate unless they were separated by >=30 seconds. When a female elicited 3 separate MCs, for example, I list the female once, but I list the 3 MCs on 3 separate lines.

All times are in MINUTES GPD Redondo Meadow Colony (RMC, studied in 2013 through 2016) was at Valles Caldera National Preserve (VCNP). GPD Visitor Center Colony (VCC, studied in 2017 and 2018) was also at VCNP. GPD colony at Petrified Forest National Park (PEFO) was studied from 1989 through 1995.

I considered data from the same prairie dog in different years to be independent. Number of males that gave MC = number of different males that gave at least one MC Cumulative number of separate MCs for each female = total, cumulative number of MCs for each estrous female Mean length of each MC = mean length of all MC's for a single estrous female (mins) Remember: Many females did not elicit a single MC (i.e., Cumulative number of MCs = 0) MC = Mating Call Two mating calls were not considered separate unless they were separated by >=30 seconds.

Cop = copulation littsize = litter size Lac = lactating = teats long and turgid LDF = teats long, dry, and flat = female was lactating, but lost litter late in lactation MDF = teats medium length, dry, and flat = female was lactating, but lost litter in mid-lactation SDF = teats small, dry, and flat = female probably gave birth but lost her litter early in lactation--or in late pregnancy No teats = teats not visible = female probably did not give birth--or lost litter soon after parturition babydate = date of first emergence from natal burrow-entrance = approximate date of weaning. microsats = microsatellite, which helped with assignments of maternity and paternity mixing = juveniles of different litters mixed/mingled soon after first emergence from natal nursery-burrow, so that I could not accurately determine litter sizes, littermate sibships, or maternities Each female could have SEVERAL lengths of each MC if she elicited several MCs--but she could have only ONE Cumulative time for all MCs for each single female (See Fig 16.4).

Each female also could have only one Mean duration of MCs for this female (See Fig 16.4). File name= Figs 16.2 and Fig 16.3, GPDs, Mating call, Details, 23 May 2026
