Replication Data for: Figs 16.6, 16.8, 16.10, WTPDs, Mating calls vs individual variation, sexual partners, and male body mass, 27 May 2026

Listed in data.InDoRES

Weanlings = Number of babies weaned by females with whom male copulated Note, however, that the male did NOT necessarily sire all juveniles listed as babies Some of those babies were sired by other males For more details about paternity, see Chapters 19 and 20.

Description

I do NOT use this file for any analyses of weanlings sired or yearlings sired. Each male had unique eartags.

Dognumber = Numerical, convenient number for WTPD male in a single year, with no connection to either eartags or Nyanzol marker. If we had data from the same male in different years, then that male might have 1, 2, 3, or even 4 "Dognumbers", but he had only one set of eartags across all years. Male WTPD = Nyanzol marker for male WTPD in a single year For long-lived individuals of either sex for all four species, an individual often had the same Nyanzol marker for several consecutive years.

This file has now been checked TWO TIMES MCs = total number of MCs given by male for all females with whom he copulated In this file, Number of MCs = number of sexual partners for which male gave at least one MC Percentage MCs = percentage of sexual partners for whom male gave at least one MC = Number of MCs / Sexpartners Weanlings sired = number of weanlings sired vs number of MC's for mother in different years were considered independent.

MC = Mating Call, defined in Chapter 16. Age = age in years since first emergence from natal nursery burrow For this file, Age = 1 = yearling, and Age = 2 = male of age >=2 = 2,3,4,5, or 6 years old Sexual partners = number of different females with whom male copulated during mating season Weanling = juvenile offspring at first emergence from natal burrow-entrance Male body mass during mating season = body mass just before, during, or just after mating season, which usually started in mid-to late February and continued until mid-March for GPDs, UPDs, and WTPDs Because I had information on eartags, I did NOT consider data from the same male in different years to be independent. but I DID consider data from the same WTPD male to be independent for Fig 16.6 Notice that this file includes data from BOTH yearling BTPD males (1-year olds) AND >=2-year old BTPD males-- even though yearling BTPD males usually did not copulate--but all yearling males in THIS file DID copulate.

Body masses are all in GRAMS These data used for Fig 16.6, 16.8, and Fig 16.10 in Hoogland 2026 ARS = Annual Reproductive Success This file ready for longterm storage on 22 March 2025. I sometimes considered data from the same prairie dog in different years to be independent (e.g., Fig 16.6 for TPDs) but not other times (e.g., Figs 16.8and 16.10 for WTPDs. A WTPD male will have the SAME EARTAGS in different years, but will have a different Dognum in different years For some analyses (e.g., Fig 16.6), I considered data from the same UPD male in different years to be statistically independent--but not so for other analyses (e.g., Figs 16.8 and 16.10) All data in this EXCEL file are from sexually mature males that copulated with at least one female.
