Surveys About Family and Medical Leave

Listed in Harvard Dataverse

The Commission conducted these surveys as one part of its legal obligation to report to Congress about the impact of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Public Law 103-3, on employees and employers.

Description

This series consists of data from a survey of employers and a survey of employees. The employer survey of private businesses contains information on their leave policies, how many employees took advantage of the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), how companies dealt with the costs, and how the FMLA affected business productivity, competitiveness and employee performance and attitudes.

The employee survey provides information on the number of leave-takers, those who needed leave but didn't take it, reasons for leave, lengths of leave and how they covered expenses during unpaid leave periods. These social surveys have information on work and family, employee fringe benefits and leaves of absence. This data comprises government records extracted from the Archival Research Catalog (ARC).
