Questionnaires for assessing linguistic experience, self-reported competence and sociolinguistic profile in fieldwork contexts in Galicia, Asturias and Cantabria

The questionnaires were developed for use in doctoral research on language contact, bilingualism and prosodic variation, and are intended to document participants’ linguistic biographies, language use patterns, educational background, sociocultural identification and relevant personal background variables.

The set includes three regional versions: one for Galicia, one for Asturias and one for Cantabria. The Galician and Asturian versions include specific modules on Galician-Spanish and Asturian-Spanish bilingualism, respectively, whereas the Cantabrian version was designed as a comparative questionnaire for a predominantly Spanish-speaking fieldwork context. The questionnaires are based on, adapted from or informed by previous instruments and official statistical surveys, including the Language Experience and Proficiency Questionnaire (LEAP-Q), the Enquisa estrutural a fogares (Coñecemento e uso do galego) from the Galician Government and selected questions from the Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE), included to support comparability with broader population-level data.
