The Bird Collection of the University Museum Bergen

Listed in GBIF

The Bird Collection of the University Museum Bergen houses 7100 specimens.

Description

The majority are study skins (incl. a few old mounted birds) and about 400 birds preserved in ethanol. The collection has a focus on species from Norway, but also includes (mainly old) specimens from localities in other parts of the world.

The collection is currently growing by about 40-50 birds per year. These have typically been accidentally killed by e.g. airplanes, fishing gear, windows, cars, cats etc., and have been delivered to the museum by members of the public or local authorities. A few are also normally collected during field work by museum staff.
