<p dir="ltr">This code repository supports the analysis of climatic and environmental conditions preceding the 26 August 2026 Langtang Lirung rock–ice slope failure and downstream flood in northern Nepal.
Description
The workflows process ERA5-Land temperature, precipitation and snow variables together with satellite and topographic datasets to characterize the event and its antecedent climate state. The analyses include daily temperature anomalies, heatwave detection, positive-degree-day accumulation, precipitation and snowfall anomalies, snow-water-equivalent and snow melt diagnostics, standardized hydroclimatic indices (SPI, SFI, SSMI, SSWEI), spatial ranking and exceptionalness analyses, and publication-quality visualization.
Particular emphasis is placed on identifying short-timescale thermal loading and late-summer snow depletion relative to the 1979–2025 climatology. The codes are provided to improve reproducibility and enable adaptation of the workflow to other high-mountain climate and cascading-hazard studies.</p>
