Understanding the acceptability of digital diabetes self-management tools among non-users: A qualitative study of personal, social and healthcare contexts

However, digital health technology may also risk widening existing inequalities. MyWay Diabetes is a digital self-management intervention implemented in three regions across England.
Understanding the acceptability of online and digital tools to support diabetes self-management, particularly among non‑users and underserved groups, is essential to ensure equitable engagement and implementation.</p><p dir="ltr">This study presents a qualitative analysis nested within a broader mixed-methods evaluation aiming to test the effectiveness of MyWay Diabetes. The current study set out to (1) explore barriers to using online and digital support across diverse demographic groups with type 1 and type 2 diabetes who had not used the MyWay Diabetes platform, and (2) identify factors that could improve uptake and continued engagement.

Included here are the anonymised focus group transcripts.</p><p dir="ltr">This dataset comprises:</p><ul><li>Six online focus groups with n=35 people living with diabetes across the three regions in England (Greater Manchester, North West London and Somerset), who had not used the MyWay Diabetes platform.</li></ul><p dir="ltr">Focus group discussions asked people living with diabetes for their views on the barriers to using online and digital tools.
The Theoretical Framework of Acceptability informed data collection and analysis.</p><p dir="ltr">Full consent was obtained from all participants prior to taking part in a focus group. All participants consented to the anonymised dataset being deposited in an open data repository at the end of the project.</p>
