The large machine can be seen at right and has a long arm that extends to left. Mounds of dark dirt can be seen at left, and a deep ditch separates the dirt from a road at right.
Several men are watching the steam shovel work from the edge of the road. Buildings and utility poles can be seen in the background at right.
