Multitaxonomic dataset of Alpe di Catenaia beech forest

Listed in GBIF

This dataset presents an inventory of communities belonging to different taxonomic groups, sampled within a managed beech forest located in Central Italy.

Description

Specifically, it includes occurrence and abundance data for the following groups: bryophytes, coleoptera, lichens, soil microarthropods, terrestrial gastropods and vascular plants. The data collection, carried out during the 2023–2024 period, was designed to assess the ecological response of forest biodiversity to different silvicultural management strategies.

In particular, the study focuses on a former coppice forest currently undergoing conversion to high forest through three different options: periodic thinning, periodic thinning plus an anticipated seed cutting, and natural evolution. The value of this dataset is thus represented by the fact that it could serves as a robust baseline for understanding the dynamics of forest conversion and its role in maintaining ecosystem services and biodiversity in managed temperate beech forests.
