Surveys of the Characteristics of Households Receiving Food Stamps

The agency conducted this sample survey of households to measure the accuracy of food stamp eligibility and benefit determinations.

Description

The agency used these data for program analysis and improvement and to prepare annual narrative and tabular overviews of the Food Stamp program. This series consists of data collected from a nationwide sample of the households receiving food stamps.

Sample sizes ranges from 4,140 households in 1980 to 65,127 households surveyed in 1990. For 1980, there is als o a file with data from Puerto Rico. Each record contains data on one household, with fields that pertain to either the entire household or to individuals within the household.

Household data include administrative, demographics and weights, income, assets, expenses and deductions, and benefits. Data from individuals include social characteristics, such as age, sex, race, employment, and income. This data comprises government records extracted from the Archival Research Catalog (ARC).
