The agency created this series to provide information on naval surveillance activities in South Vietnam for U.S. and Vietnamese forces, how forces assigned information for each coastal surveillance zone, and the number of sightings, inspections, bearings, and infiltrations reported.
Description
Information for the file was provided by weekly operations reports from the field, and a variety of summary reports were generated from the compiled data.
This series contains information on operations Market T ime and Game Warden, during the Vietnamese Conflict, 1961-1975. Operation Market Time was concerned with surveillance of the coastline of South Vietnam, while operation Game Warden dealt with the patrolling of South Vietnamese rivers. Each Market Time record includes the following information: surveillance area, number of ships detected, inspected, boarded, the numbers of each type of ship in the surveillance force; the number of merchant ships of each nationality detected; and the number of aircraft patrols of each type.

Records for the easternmost area also include summary data on South Vietnamese surveillance activities. Each operation Game Warden record include the following information: surveillance area; number of ships detected, ships of each type in the surveillance force; ships involved in incidents (located by Universal Transverse Mercator coordinates) and material and personnel losses incurred; and numbers of strikes of mines detonated by helicopter operations.
