Prosperity or Adversity: Comparing the Effects of Family Structural and Relationship Properties on Adolescents Academic Achievement

The adolescents in this study are grouped as “prosperity” and “adversity” according to their familial structural resources to examine how personal resilient personality and familial relationship property affect adolescent academic success and deviant behaviors.

Description

Data of this study is collected by following up 885 senior high school students and their parents at Taipei city. The primary analysis shows that personal resilient personality has significant effects on both adolescent academic achievement and deviant behaviors.

Familial structural resources are positively associated with adolescent academic achievement and relationship resources are negatively associated with deviant behaviors. This research have not only theoretical contribution, but also practical application for family policy-making and family education.
