Parental Gambling in New Zealand Families: Evidence from <i>Growing Up in New Zealand</i>

The effects of gambling related harm are well established in relation to the gambling participant, the wider family, and society; however, there is a paucity of data on the effect of parental gambling on child health and wellbeing. <i>Growing Up in New Zealand</i> is a longitudinal study that provides a contemporary, population relevant picture of what it is like to be a child growing up in New Zealand in the 21^st century.

It provides a unique opportunity to examine gambling participation in a family context and assess the effect of parental gambling on child health outcomes in a longitudinal study.</p><p dir="ltr"><i>Parental Gambling in New Zealand Families</i> is the first report to describe gambling participation behaviours in a family context in an ethnically and socioeconomically diverse birth cohort. It draws on information collected from mothers and their partners at the antenatal, 9-month and 2-year data collection waves of the <i>Growing Up in New Zealand </i>study.
