Replication Data for: Fig 19.5. GPDs, UPDS, and WTPDS. Frequency of polyandry vs the adult sex ratio, 30 June 2026

Listed in data.InDoRES

(females/males) for this chapter) for three species of prairie dogs.

Description

BTPDs did not show a similar trend. This figure includes all males and females that copulated and were still alive in May when juveniles started to emerge from natal nursery-burrows.

Polyandry occurred when a prairie dog female copulated with >=2 males. Adult sex ratio = number of adult males and adult females that were sexually mature during the mating season These data used for Fig 19.5 in Hoogland 2026. This file ready for longterm storage on 27 March 2025.

I considered data from the same prairie dog in different years to be independent. All numbers in columns B, C, and D are percentages, but I have not show, the %-sign. GPD data for this figure are from all three study-colonies: PEFO, RMC, and VCC.

GPD Redondo Meadow Colony (RMC, studied in 2013 through 2016) was at Valles Caldera National Preserve (VCNP). GPD Visitor Center Colony (VCC, studied in 2017 and 2018) was also at VCNP. GPD colony at Petrified Forest National Park (PEFO) was studied from 1989 through 1995.

Raw data for the Adult sex ratio per year come from Chapter 11. Raw data for the percentages of polyandry per year come from information in Fig 19.1. For this figure, note that I have designed the adult sex ratio in May as adult females / adult males.

A few adults copulated during the mating season but died before May. They are NOT shown in this EXCEL file or in Fig 19.5. Adult males were more likely than adult females to die between the mating season and May.

For GPDs, UPDs, and WTPDs, the usual mating season at my study-colonies was in mid to late March until mid-April. Details in Chapter 15. All UPD data from the Horse Corral Colony (HCC) at Bryce Canyon National Park.

All WTPD data from the single WTPD study-colony at the Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge File name. Fig 19.5. GPDs, UPDS, and WTPDS.
