Development of Real-Time Imaging and Radionuclide Identification Visualization Software Based on a Compton Camera Module

Listed in ScienceDB

The Compton camera plays a significant role in nuclear emergency response, nuclear safety monitoring, and nuclear environmental assessment.

Description

To meet the demand for domestic Compton camera imaging software, this study develops an autonomous imaging software based on the Qt framework, integrating stable data acquisition, real-time imaging and localization, precise nuclide identification, and real-time radiation source hotspot visualization.

This research aims to develop domestic Compton camera imaging software to replace commercial solutions and improve performance in nuclear security applications. The developed imaging software was tested using the commercial D-Matrix Compton camera module. The software's data acquisition function was verified by comparing the single-pixel energy resolution, which reached 0.91% at 662 keV, with the results from D-Matrix's commercial software.

Additionally, the software was evaluated for its capabilities in rapid imaging, nuclide identification, and source localization in different scenarios. The software demonstrated reliable data acquisition, with a real-time imaging output that continuously updates within 5 seconds after measurement initiation. For a radiation source of 10^8Bq at a distance of 1.0 meter, the software could generate a precise image and locate the source within 10 seconds.

The nuclide identification accuracy reached 100% for single nuclides, and over 99% accuracy was achieved in mixed nuclide scenarios. After MLEM iteration optimization, the software's angular resolution reached approximately 6°. The software's overall performance is comparable to international Compton imaging systems, meeting the dual requirements of timeliness and accuracy for nuclear emergency response.

It supports multi-interface expansion and modular upgrades, making it adaptable for domestic Compton camera platforms, laying a solid foundation for the future full localization of Compton cameras.
