Description

I created this file from SYSTAT file called PREGLAC, which I created on 16 Oct 1989 I assume that I checked this file TWO TIMES AT CREATION I used this file for Hoogland 1995 (e.g., pages 389, 392) Note that data begin in 1978 = first year when I could identify copulations and parturition Note this this file contains data from Litter size = 0 I deleted all cases of Litter size = 0 for statistical analyses with litter size vs gestation or lactation No eartag information in this file.

Litter size = litter size at first juvenile emergence = number of weanlings Yearling = number of babies from litter that survive for >=9 months after first emergence Date of estrus and copulation = JULIAN date when female copulated Date of parturition = JULIAN date of parturition Date of weaning = JULIAN date of first juvenile emergence = approximate weaning Length of gestation (days) = Date of Parturition - Date of estrus and copulation Length of lactation = number of days between date of parturition and date of weaning = date of weaning - date of parturition Length of both gestation and lactation = summation of length of gestation and length of lactation I ASSUME that date of weaning = date of first juvenile emergence from the natal burrow entrance, but I know this is not completely true--because nursing of juveniles continues to occur after first juvenile emergences.

Note

Entries with question marks are IGNORED by SYSTAT. I did a little trial to verify this. Dates shown here are Julian dates.

Julian date of copulation = 71 = 12 March, for example. Julian date of first emergence of juveniles from natal burrow entrance = 145 = 25 May, for example. Julian date of parturition = 84 = March 25, for example.

These Julian data are for NON-LEAP years. Julian dates for leap years after 28 February differ by 1 day. No information on female IDs in this file-- no eartags, no Nyanzol markers Each line is information from a single BTPD female per year.

These data used for Figs 17.2, 17.3, and 17.4 in Hoogland 2026. This file ready for longterm storage on 25 March 2025. I considered data from the same prairie dog in different years to be independent.

Litter size = 0 is EXCLUDED for statistical analyses in Fig 17.4. This EXCEL file contains some information that does not appear in Figs 17.2, 17.3, and 17.4 File name = Figs 17.2, 17.3, and 17.4, BTPDs, Length of gestation and lactation, 18 June 2026
