Listed in ZivaHub and Deakin Research Online and DMU Figshare — shown once because both records carry DOI 10.17034/32640891.v1
The study underscores the need to align academic curricula with market demands while maintaining a comprehensive and continuously updated translation education.
Description
A key recommendation is integrating all translation competencies—linguistic, cultural, technological, and strategic—alongside theoretical and historical aspects. The research emphasizes that Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools must be embedded as a core component of translation programs to equip students with essential technological skills.

Using a mixed-methods approach, the study combines quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
A questionnaire was administered to 217 translation students from King Saud University, Imam Mohammed Ibn Saud Islamic University, and Princess Noura University. Additionally, interviews were conducted with deans, department heads, and instructors with at least three years of experience in translation education.

Findings reveal a significant disconnect between university curricula and market needs, with an overemphasis on linguistic competence and insufficient integration of translation technology.

The lack of practical CAT training contributes to graduates’ unemployability.

To address this, translation programs must mandate the integration of translation competence and CAT tools across all training aspects. Universities should prioritize hiring qualified instructors and ensuring adequate technological infrastructure. Without these changes, curricula risk becoming outdated, limiting students’ career prospects.
Proper integration will enhance employability and ensure programs remain relevant to industry demands.
