SPM LTDS CIM
Listed in spenergynetworks
Our LTDS Stage 2 dataset provides a structured, standards‑based representation of the electricity distribution network using the Common Information Model (CIM) .
Description
This dataset supports transparency, interoperability, and consistent network modelling across the energy sector. The information is published in line with regulatory requirements and includes both existing and future network conditions.
Further guidance on LTDS Stage 2 model publications can be found on the BSI hub . Access to the CIM Models section of our Open Data Portal requires submitting a request through the online form . Use of this data is subject to our Shared Data Licence Terms and Conditions.

What’s Included in LTDS Stage 2 LTDS Stage 2 introduces a more complete set of grid‑modelling data, organised into defined “cases” . These cases group CIM profiles into ZIP files that represent the network under different conditions.
The dataset covers two time frames: Existing – how the network currently operates Future – how the network is planned to operate in the coming years 1. Existing Network Data Existing Fault Level Case A ZIP file containing three CIM models: Equipment (EQ) – physical assets and connectivity Short Circuit (SC) – fault model parameters Short Circuit Results (SCR) – calculated fault levels This case represents the current network configuration and its fault‑level performance.
Existing System Capacity Case A ZIP file containing two CIM models: Equipment (EQ) System Capacity (SYSCAP) – outturn non‑coincident load and firm capacity This case reflects the non-coincident maximum loading and capacity of demand groups in the distribution network. 2. Future Network Data Future Year 1 System Capacity Case A ZIP file containing: Equipment (EQ) – future planned network configuration System Capacity (SYSCAP) – forecast non‑coincident load for Year 1 This case supports forward‑looking network projects including connections and reinforcement work, as well as providing forecast maximum demands.
About the Equipment (EQ) Profile The EQ Profile provides the foundational physical model of the distribution network, including: Busbar sections and connectivity nodes Switching devices – breakers, disconnectors, fuses, load break switches Circuits – AC line segments with impedance and seasonal ratings Transformers – windings, tap changers, seasonal limits Loads – aggregated demand by voltage level Generation and storage – by fuel type and connection voltage Compensators – shunt, series, and static VAr devices Containment hierarchy – substations, voltage levels, regions External equivalents – reduced models for out‑of‑area networks Across all Stage 2 cases, the EQ Profile provides the foundational physical model of the distribution network.
It underpins both the Short Circuit and System Capacity profiles , ensuring consistent representation of assets and connectivity across these analyses. The EQ Profile is also designed to support the additional Stage 3 LTDS profiles , due to be published in November 2026, enabling future expansion into enhanced modelling and reporting requirements. Disclaimer The LTDS dataset is derived from SP Energy Networks’ internal data.
While reasonable care has been taken, the data: is indicative only has been redacted following our Risk Assessment process must not be used for safety‑critical purposes cannot be used for accurate connection assessments For safety‑critical work, appropriate services such as LineSearchBeforeUDig must be used. Prospective applicants should apply for a formal connection assessment. Data Triage As part of our commitment to enhancing the transparency, and accessibility of the data we share, we publish the results of our Data Triage process.
Our Data Triage documentation includes our Risk Assessments; detailing any controls we have implemented to prevent exposure of sensitive information.
