Modal mineral composition of heavy mineral samples from the Felbertal, Stubachtal and Habachtal, Eastern Alps (automated mineralogy)

Listed in GeoSphere Tethys

The dataset was compiled as part of the HeavyMin project using SEM-based automated mineralogy and comprises mineralogical investigations of stream sediments from selected valleys in the central Tauern Window.

Description

The mineralogical composition of the heavy mineral fraction and the mineralchemistry of indicator minerals e.g., scheelite, magnetite, pyrite etc. provide insights into potential mineral deposits in the source area.

The regional focus is on assessing tungsten potential, particularly based on scheelite (CaWO₄), as well as other ore systems containing copper, molybdenum, and precious metals. The data support the identification of exploration vectors and provenance analysis of mineralized areas.
