This dataset contains the source data underlying the study “A multidimensional framework for characterizing rum terroir: development and application in the French West Indies”.
Description
The dataset brings together anonymized information provided by rum-producing units in Guadeloupe and Martinique, including production characteristics, natural and anthropogenic factors, and producer perceptions related to rum typicity and terroir.
Twenty-eight production units are included in the study perimeter. The dataset also contains the raw physicochemical and GC-FID analytical data obtained for 53 rum samples from Guadeloupe and Martinique, comprising 29 white rums and 24 aged rums. All analytical measurements were performed in triplicate.

The physicochemical dataset includes measurements of colour parameters (L*, a*, b*), total phenolic content, volatile acidity, alcohol content, pH and transmittance at 420 nm. The GC-FID dataset contains quantitative measurements for 22 volatile compounds, classified into alcohols, esters and aldehydes. All production-unit and sample identifiers have been anonymized.
The dataset is organized into separate files containing producer-provided information, physicochemical measurements, GC-FID measurements, and a README file describing the data structure, variables, coding and methodological information. These data are provided to support the transparency, reproducibility and further use of the research on the characterization of rum terroir and its contribution to rum typicity in the French West Indies.
