Aiyitioderus gen. nov. and A. montanus sp. nov. are described for the first time from the mountains of the Dominican Republic, Hispaniola. This species is similar to those of the heterostixus - group currently assigned to Heteroderes Latreille from mainland North America. The species is only known from higher elevations in mixed humid broadleaf forest to pine and cloud forest transitions.

Aiyitioderus gen. nov. is the first endemic genus of Elateridae reported from the West Indies.
