However, mechanisms regulating their changes at seasonal scales remain poorly understood. Using position data of a total 32 buoys in the Pacific sector of the Arctic Ocean (PAO), we characterized spatiotemporal variations in sea ice kinematics and deformation for autumn–winter 2018/19.

Data collected by most of the 32 buoys used in the study are available from the CHINARE and IABP repositories. The present dataset comprises GPS data from a subset of these 32 buoys, namely from thermistor chain (SIMBA-type) buoys 2018T35, 2018T46, 2018T52, 2018T54, 2018T55. These buoys were, among others, installed on sea ice floes during the TRANSDRIFT/TICE/NABOS expedition onboard the Akademik Tryoshnikov in Aug/Sep 2018.
