Modulation Mechanism of Contact Stress on the Structural and Tribological Properties of MoS2 Lubricating Films and Optimization of Bearing Assembly
Listed in ScienceDB
To meet the requirements of high precision and long service life for spatial precision mechanisms under oscillating motion and extreme operating conditions, this study investigates the influence of contact stress on the microstructure and tribological properties of MoS2 solid lubricating films.
Description
Based on the observed mechanisms, an optimized design for solid lubricated bearings was proposed and validated through tests on a satellite-borne scanning mechanism.
A contact stress gradient ranging from 0.5 to 2.0 GPa was established through constant-load tests. Microstructural characterization via transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that contact stress induces a multistage structural ordering evolution. Vacuum tribological tests demonstrated that the average coefficient of fric tion (COF) decreases with increasing contact stress, showing an inverse linear relationship with contact stress, while the wear rate increases.

Based on these findings, the maximum contact stress within the bearing was significantly reduced by decreasing the preload and introducing a large-angle intermittent scanning, which also effectively suppressed debris accumulation. Therefore, the oscillating service life of the bearing in a vacuum environment reached 1.8 × 108 cycles. This study provides theoretical insights and engineering solutions for the solid lubrication treatment and performance optimization of bearing assembly in long-life, high-reliability space precision mechanisms.
