The agency conducted this social survey to provide policy makers with accurate and comprehensive information about the travel of persons in the United States and about the principal characteristics of travel and travelers.
Description
This series contains information concerning the origin, destination, volume, and characteristics of long-distance travel in the United States. The survey collected quarterly information related to the demographic characteristics of persons, households, and trips for app roximately 80,000 American households nationwide.
The ATS data provides detailed information on state-to-state travel as well as travel to and from metropolitan areas by mode of transportation. Data is also available for subgroups defined in terms of characteristics related to travel, such as business, vacation, or combined business / pleasure travel by age, family type, labor force status, income, and a variety of related characteristics. This data comprises government records extracted from the Archival Research Catalog (ARC).
