The agency compiled these data on repatriated prisoners of war from three agency administered systems, the Beneficiary Identification and Records Location System (BIRLS), Compensation and Pension System (C&P), and the Patient Treatment File (PTF).

Description

Additional information was compiled from records at the Department of Defense and National Archives and Records Service. The agency used these data to prepare the report "POW: Study of Former Prisoners of War" in accordance with provisions of Se ction 305 of the Veterans' Disability Compensation and Survivors' Benefits Act of 1978 (Public Law 95-479, enacted October 18, 1978).

This series contains data on repatriated prisoners of war (POWs) from World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the USS Pueblo incident. The records contain information on their military service, captivity, pension status, and medical history. The records include the name of POW, service number, claim number, Social Security number, length of service, branch of service, degree of disability and diagnostic codes, date of capture, period of captivity, and name of POW camp.
