The Algerian crisis: not over yet

This report looks at the rise in violence in Algeria after the events of 1999, noting the failure to address the fundamental issues which caused it: the need to fundamentally restructure and relegitimize the Algerian state, accept the failure of the strategy of eradication of the Islamists and open up the political process. It argues that resolving Algeria's crisis effectively will also require new thinking and a new approach on the part of the international community and, in particular, the European states and the European Union.
