Isentropic Trajectories for Derivation of Objectively Analyzed Meteorological Parameters

Listed in National Center for Atmospheric Research

This technical note presents a numerical technique for calculating isentropic trajectories, and the objective analysis of trajectoryderived meteorological parameters.

Description

A brief historical summary of the isentropic trajectory concept and objective analysis method is presented. The requirement for large numbers of trajectories on a global scale necessitated development of an objective computer program.

A brief case study illustrating the objective analysis of trajectory-derived meteorological parameters is included.
