Cross-Border Urban Form Model

It has been developed as a basis for the analysis of anticipated outcomes of land policies in built urban form (Kleiner and Jehling 2026), but can also be used for other purposes. The model bridges the challenge of making urban form quantifiable across countries due to the inherent differences in national data sources.

The dataset therefore provides a harmonized geo-data model for the French-German border-region based on building, plot, street and address information available in the two countries. To facilitate meaningful application of the dataset, it incorporates information on dominant building type on each block stemming from a random forest classification, further it provides the building age of the development block, and finally integrates an existing accessibility analysis approach to describe relative location of the individual development blocks within the cross-border region.
