Understanding the acceptability of digital diabetes self-management tools among non-users: A qualitative study of personal, social and healthcare contexts - template analysis

We conducted six focus groups with n=35 people.</p><p dir="ltr">This dataset comprises the template analysis which support the themes described in the paper 'Understanding the acceptability of digital diabetes self-management tools among non-users: A qualitative study of personal, social and healthcare contexts.' A novel feature of template analysis is the iterative development of a coding template. <b>Included here is each version of the coding template, and the final version of the template (version 4).</b></p><p dir="ltr">The Theoretical Framework of Acceptability (TFA) informed the data analysis.

An initial coding template was developed based on the TFA constructs plus inductive codes identified during initial data coding (template 1). As higher‑order TFA constructs recurred across multiple parts of participant accounts (for example, participants discussed “<i>affective attitude</i>” in relation to their management of diabetes, use of digital tools and wider healthcare structures) an updated template focused on inductive codes (template 2), with deductive mapping to TFA constructs conducted separately and summarised in tabular format.

The updated template was iteratively refined through application to further transcripts (template 3) until it adequately represented all data. A final version template was applied to the full dataset (template 4).</p>
