Transcriptomic changes in Arabidopsis thaliana (Col-0) upon inhibition of histone deacetylases with valeric acid under normal growth conditions and during heat shock.

Listed in NCBI GEO

Histone deacetylase (HDA) are highly evolutionarily conserved group of enzymes that regulate chromatin condensation and promote transcription siliencing.

Description

Inhibitors of HDA are extensively studied as potential anti-cancer drugs and their selectivity is in mammalian cells was well determined. In plants, many HDA repress stress responsive genes, thus selective inhibition of those enzymes is a promising approach to increse plant resistance to abiotic stresses.

Here we showed that treatemnt of plants with valeric acid, lately identified human HDA inhibitor, activates many stress-related genes and increases Arabidopsis survival under heat stress.
