Description
The agency used these data to provide them with a detailed description of Detroit metropolitan area nursing homes and nursing home residents, and to investigate the relationship between characteristics of nursing homes and the range, quantity, and quality of services received by the residents. The agency also used these data to develop further studies of the aged and mental health patients.
This series contains detailed public use data on 40 nursing homes and samples of 1,000 residents and 200 nurse aides in Detroit, Michigan. For nursing homes, data are available on each home's size, location, ownership, certified rating, proportion of patients receiving public aid, date of first licensure, services offered, and membership in the Michigan Nursing Home Association. Data are also available on each home's administrator and director of nursing, including their professional background and experience, whether they held a financial interest in the home, and whether each lived nearby or in the home.

Data on residents document their age, sex, race, physical disability, mental disability, and social isolation. Nurse aide data document their training, tenure, experience, attitudes, and expectations. This data comprises government records extracted from the Archival Research Catalog (ARC).
