National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) Files

The data were used to conduct a wide range of analyses. This series contains sample data on the health of the resident, civilian, non-institutionalized population of the United States.

It also includes information about the medical care, including cost, received by this population. The data are from five core questionn aires pertaining to households, persons, medical conditions, doctors visits, and hospitalizations. Also available are data from annual topical supplements with questions on diseases and medical conditions such as Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS); cancer; podiatry; and pregnancy and smoking as well as on general issues such as health promotion and disease prevention; environmental factors; medical costs; family resources; child health; medical device implants; preventive care; health insurance; hearing; eye care; accidents; health maintenance organizations (HMOs); home health care; residential mobility; disabilities; physical fitness; occupational health; aging; and vitamin and mineral supplement use.
