Description
Anns Bank Marine Protected Area, this dataset is based on a subset of 639 high-resolution digital still images of the seafloor using a Nikon D850 camera during an imagery survey from 2023 and 2024. This dataset documents the presence of all visible taxa to the lowest taxonomic level, as well as general habitat descriptions of each transect.
Images were analyzed for taxa and morphotype occurrences using the image annotation software BIIGLE (biigle.de/), resulting in 15586 occurrences for ~240 different taxa and/or morphotypes. Morphotype descriptions and suggested/likely taxa are provided under "occurrenceRemarks". An annotation guide describing each taxa and morphotype is provided as an appendix in the associated technical report (Teed et al. 2025).

Sponges were the most commonly occurring phyla (namely encrusting morphotypes), followed by enchinoderms and chordates (i.e., ascidians). Commonly occurring taxa include Serpulid worms, encrusting bryozoans, Celleporina spp. and Caberea ellisii bryozoans, Leptothecata hydrozoans, sea stars (Asterias spp. and/or Leptasterias spp.), daisy brittle stars (Ophiopholis aculeata), orange encrusting sponges, and encrusting coralline algae (Boreolithothamnion glaciale).
