Taking the measure of High Cross: translating the many worlds of Truro at the time of the Anthropocene

This thesis responds to the spectre of the Anthropocene by advancing a novel conception of translation as a grounded material process in service of a more-than-human politics, described as ‘taking the measure’.
Description
It sets this conception of translation within a development of the notion of ‘translationality’ as an experience of energy and movement that can negotiate change. This highly theoretical argument is advanced as a means to think the narrative dynamics of place.
At High Cross, in Truro, the theoretical journey of the thesis is developed further via a diffractive process that attempts to translate the ‘many worlds’ of this very specific place. <br><br><i>Thesis embargoed until 31 December 2027.</i>
