Subsidized Tenant Household Data Files

The records for the households living in public housing projects, subsidized by authority of the U.S. Housing Act of 1937, are kept in the Subsidized Housing Admissions and Continued Occupancy (SHACO) system. Also included in the SHACO system are records of households living in private projects subsidized under Section 101 of the Housing and Urban Development Act of 1965, or Section 236 of the National Housing Act (1934), as amended by the Housing and Urban Development Act of 1968.

Most of the records of households living in private housing are maintained in the Lower Income Assistance Payments System (LIAPS). Most of the records are for households that lived in public housing projects authorized by the U.S. Housing Act of 1937 and subsidized by the agency. Most of the tenants lived in government managed projects that received federal money under various sections of the National Housing Act of 1937, but some lived in privately managed projects that received funding.
