RICE: Shallow - Firn - Ice core, Roosevelt Island, Antarctica

Listed in NASA Earthdata CMR

RICE is an international collaboration between New Zealand, USA, Denmark, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Italy and China.

Description

The aim of the project is to recover a 750 m deep ice core from Roosevelt Island in Antarctica to determine the stability of the Ross Ice Shelf and West Antarctica in a warming world. Three shallow 10m deep firn cores were obtained from the vicinity of the drill site.

These cores will have geochemical analysis to help towards the main research objective.
