Remote Sensing Tiling Grid
Listed in Edmonton Open Data
This shapefile defines the official 512m x 512m tiling grid structure used by the City of Edmonton for the systematic delivery and management of its remote sensing data products.
Description
The grid covers the entirety of the City of Edmonton's corporate boundary. Each polygon feature in this dataset represents a unique tile identifier.
This grid facilitates standardized access and processing of high-resolution geospatial data. Purpose: To provide a standardized spatial framework for the organization, dissemination, and delivery of LiDAR, 4-band Near-Infrared (NIR) orthophotos, and RGB orthophotos acquired by the City of Edmonton, commencing with data products from the year 2025. Spatial Reference System: Projected Coordinate System: NAD 1983 Alberta 3TM ref merid 114 W Projection: Transverse Mercator Geographic Coordinate System: GCS NAD 1983 Datum: D North American 1983 WKID (Well-Known ID): 3776 Units: Metre Spatial Extent/Coverage: Description: The tiling grid encompasses all areas within the legally defined corporate boundary of the City of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Attributes: Tile (Text): Unique identifier for each grid cell. Format: YYY_XXX Origin: The numbering originates from the South-West (SW) corner of the grid. YYY: Represents the column number, increasing eastward.
XXX: Represents the row number, increasing northward. Other Attributes: Standard shapefile geometry attributes (e.g., FID, Shape, ID, area, perimeter may be present). Temporal Information: Relevance: This tiling grid is the standard for remote sensing data products scheduled for delivery starting in 2025 and for subsequent collection years.
Publication Date of Grid: (Assuming this grid is current for 2025 data) May 2025 (or actual publication date if different) Data Format: ESRI Shapefile (.shp, .shx, .dbf, .prj, and other associated files) Intended Use / Usage
Notes
This grid is essential for users requesting or utilizing the City of Edmonton's LiDAR, 4-band NIR orthophotos, or RGB orthophotos. It allows for precise specification of areas of interest for data extraction and ensures consistent referencing across different datasets and collection periods starting from 2025. Each 512m x 512m tile serves as a discrete unit for data delivery.
