Taiwan\'s Election and Democratization Study, 2005-2008 (II): the Survey of Taipei and Kaohsiung Cities Mayoral Elections, 2006 (TEDS2006C)

The election is very important for DPP’s survival and future, for KMT, it would be a test for 2008 presidential election. This study conducted a post-election face-to-face survey in order to provide a systematic description and explanation of people’s voting behavior in election of Taipei and Kaohsiung cities. All eligible voters in cities of Taipei and Kaohsiung are the survey population. 1,200 samples are selected from each city.

We have finally completed 1235 samples from Taipei city, and 1262 samples from Kaohsiung city. That is, total numbers of 2497 samples were completed. Group identity and consciousness, issues, party identification, candidate image, strategic voting, democratic attitudes and divided government issues will be the main topics.

Via this nation-wide survey research, it is expected to further our understanding of voting behavior in Taiwan. TEDS 2006 Mayoral Election project is the eighth national election survey planned and implemented by the Taiwanese Election and Democratization Study Committee of the Social Science Research Center, National Science Council. As other TEDS projects, TEDS 2006 Mayoral Election is truly based on inter-university cooperation by pooling human and capital resources to produce public goods for the entire political science discipline.

This research project has successfully completed, the raw data set and the codebook of TEDS 2006 were released immediately to the academic community on June 20, 2007.
