Range Management Information System Files (RAMIS)

Listed in Harvard Dataverse

The agency created and maintained this series to store information about allotments, permittees, and grazing permits by region, forest, and district.

Description

This series consists of two types of records: allotment, and permitted and actual grazing. Each record type has forestry information from Forest Service administrative units throughout the United States.

The allotment records contain data identifying the location of the grazing area, type of grassland or forest involved, and the acreage of open, closed, and privately-held land. The permitted and actual grazing records detail the type of licenses for ranching in an area, the number of cattle, sheep, and swine present, whether the business is minority owned, and the livestock losses due to poisonous plants, predators, and other factors.
