Preparation and Performance of Zn-doped High Crystallinity LADH-Cl Type Aluminum-based Lithium Adsorbent
Listed in ScienceDB
A zinc-doped highly crystalline aluminum-based lithium adsorbent (LAZDH-Cl) was prepared, and the influence of the zinc doping level on the structure and performance of the adsorbent was systematically investigated.
Description
The Zn/Al stoichiometric ratio in the synthesis system was determined by referencing the solubility of zinc hydroxide in aqueous lithium hydroxide solution at 75 °C, thereby ensuring that the product consisted exclusively of a single-phase Zn-doped lithium aluminum layered double hydroxide without any zinc-containing impurity phases.
By tuning the mole fraction of zinc in the reaction feed (0.01–0.3), adsorbents with different zinc doping amounts were synthesized, with the undoped highly crystalline aluminum-based lithium adsorbent (0-LAZDH-Cl) serving as the control. XRD and SEM analyses revealed that zinc doping had no significant effect on the crystal structure or microscopic morphology. Solution chemistry analysis showed that the maximum zinc mole fraction in the adsorbent was 0.012, which corresponded to a zinc mole fraction of 0.2 in the reaction feed.

Conversion and delithiation experiments demonstrated that zinc doping had no significant impact on the ultimate delithiation capacity (~11 mg/g) of the highly crystalline aluminum-based lithium adsorbent. Brine adsorption performance tests indicated that for the potassium-depleted brine from the Qarhan Salt Lake and three typical oilfield brines at different stages of concentration, the equilibrium adsorption capacities of the zinc-doped adsorbents exhibited no statistically significant difference from that of the control group; however, the brine composition exerted a more pronounced effect on the performance of the aluminum-based lithium adsorbent.
