Sudden Unexplained Death Syndrome Among Southeast Asian Refugees Files

Listed in Harvard Dataverse

The agency created and used these records to monitor deaths and to conduct analyses.

Description

This series contains case report records for the death of a person at least two years old for whom a postmortem examination revealed no underlying cause of death. The deaths occurred in the United States, but the decedents, 99% of whom were men, were born or had at least one parent born in a Southeast Asian country.

This social survey includes information about the refugee's or immigrant's ethnicity; sex; birth date; immigration date; state of residence; appearance and signs of distress just before death; medical treatment; and the availability of an autopsy report, a pathology report, a coroner's report, a toxicology report, and a death certificate. This data comprises government records extracted from the Archival Research Catalog (ARC).
