Pseudomonas aeruginosa PRD-10 (ATCC 15442) is useful as a model organism for studying bacterial colonization of metal implants in biomedical settings.
Description
Typical culture of the bacterium on solid rich medium would reveal small, round, greenish-yellow mucoid colonies. More importantly, a greenish colouration was easily discernible along the streak lines on the agar plate.
Such a colouration disappears during culture of P. aeruginosa PRD-10 on minimal salts agar medium. One important characteristic of this strain of P. aeruginosa was observation of retarded swarming motility. Incubation conditions were 37 o C for variable period of time for different agar media.
