Replication data for Fig 14.17, GPDs, Sex Dim of juveniles in autumn, 11 May 2026

I have labelled them in Column-I as "Out of study area," and I have not included them for some analyses because I cannot be sure if they were still alive but uncaptured For GPDs first marked in 2012 and still alive in 2016, I assume they were one-year olds in 2012--because so few GPDs lived to be >=4 years old Examples include 51 (eartag = 4), WA7 (457), 6str (333), and RR4 (171) Male-44 was >=2 in 2012 (i.e., not a yearling), and he lived until Sept 2016--so I assumed that Male-44 would have been 2 years old in spring 2013.

I have EXCLUDED a few GPD males that MIGHT have been juveniles, but probably were older. See cases in this file. All body masses in GRAMS Survivorship = 0 = did NOT survive until following spring Survivorship = 1 = DID survive until following spring Age in next spring = age in years since first emergence from natal nursery-burrow Imm = immigrant into study-area Name of file = Fig 14.17, GPDs, Sexual dimorphism of juveniles in autumn, 12 March 2025 All GPD data are from two study-colonies: Redondo Meadow Colony (RMC) at Valles Caldera National Preserve (VCNP), and Visitor Center Colony (VCC) at VCNP No data from Petrified Forest National Park (PEFO), because I never captured juveniles there in Sept or Oct.

This file contains body masses from GPD juveniles (Age in Sept or Oct = 0.5, which I score as 1 for age in spring) and older GPDs (Age >=1.5 years old in Sept or October and >=2 for Age on next spring). Age = age in years since first emergence from natal burrow-entrance = 1 in this file for BTPDs that first emerged from natal burrow-entrance as juveniles in previous May or June This file contains a single data point for each BTPD juvenile Age = 1 in October is for 5-month-old juveniles = 1 for age in next spring Age = 2 in October = age >1.5 years in October = >=2 years in next spring No data for UPDs, because I never captured UPDs in September or October For Fig 14.17 for GPDs, the comparison is for body mass of male juveniles in October (N = 383) vs body mass of female juveniles in October (N = 203).

For these comparisons, male and female juveniles were about 5 months after first emergence from the natal nursery- first emergence from the natal nursery-burrow Sample sizes are above the standard errors (SEM lines) above bars in Fig 14.17.
