Laboratory data collected to investigate the coastal protection performance of a constructed saltmarsh on a sloping bed.

Listed in Borealis

Description

These data were collected during the large-scale physical modelling experiments conducted with live saltmarsh vegetation to capture performance during the early establishment stage of a constructed saltmarsh and its seasonal changes at the Laboratoire hydraulique environnemental (LHE) of the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS), Québec City, Canada. The wave flume was located outdoors, and the experiments were conducted in two series.

The first series was carried out from July to November 2023, while the second series was conducted from May to July 2024 after vegetation regrew following the winter dormancy period. Experiments with waves were conducted each second week throughout the experimental campaign, and data were collected. Additionally, before starting the experiments each week, the plant morphological data and biomass data were collected every second week.

Moreover, profile data were collected after tests to investigate the bed profile evolution during the experiments using a total station. During the first experimental series (2023), 1200 waves were used for each test and in 2024, only 200 waves were used per test. The data are organized in three different folders.

Hydrodynamic and Profile data, Protocols, and Vegetation. In the Hydrodynamic and profile data folders, all data related to wave gauge measurements (WG), ADV measurements (V), and profile (totalStation) have been included in *parquet file format. Due to data folder size limitations, 2023 data have been included in three folders as I, II, and III.

All information related to each test included in these folders can be found in the Protocols folder. The Vegetation data folder contains two subfolders with plant morphological parameters collected every two weeks and biomass data, along with the respective plant morphological properties of the samples for which biomass was measured. Please note that SA refers to Spartina alterniflora (Sporobolus alterniflorus), Spa refers to Spartina patens (Sporobolus pumilus), and Spe refers to Spartina pectinata (Sporobolus michauxianus).
