Income Maintenance Experiment Files

The studies were used to test the effects of a guaranteed income on work incentive, mobility, and marital stability. The data provided public policy makers with information about alternative income support plans as possible replacements for the existing public welfare system.

This series consists of th ree parts: the Seattle / Denver Income Maintenance Experiment Files (SIME / DIME), the Gary, Indiana files, and the Cross-Site Analysis files which include data collected in New Jersey in addition to the three other sites. These files contain data from surveys of individuals and families, including demographic data and information on education, training, employment / unemployment, income, expenses, disabilities, marital status, family size, family composition, family history, marriages, divorces, childbirths, housing, changes of address, property values, taxes, poverty level, involvement in public welfare and income maintenance programs, and health status.
