This dataset contains the results of research into the representation of women in the paintings in the collection of Het Scheepvaartmuseum, National Maritime Museum of the Netherlands in Amsterdam.
Description
In the set it is recorded for each painting if there are women, men, persons, or no persons depicted on it. Furthermore, I have recorded the surroundings depicted on the paintings as far as possible.
The list is based on the collection of Het Scheepvaartmuseum, including long term loans (among which paintings from the NK-collectie), as present in 2024. This publication is part of the project 'Met vrouwen in zee. De representatie van vrouwen in maritieme schilderkunst' with file number 333.22.002 of the research programme Muzeumbeurzen which is (partly) financed by the Dutch Research Council (NWO).
