Data used for building function recognitiion in the GBA

Listed in ScienceDB

This dataset provides remote sensing imagery, road network data, points of interest (POI), and building footprints for building function recognition in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Description

These data sources provide complementary information on urban physical characteristics, functional semantics, and spatial structure. The remote sensing imagery was obtained from Google Earth. The imagery covers all cities in the GBA and has a spatial resolution of 1 metre.

Each image contains red, green, and blue bands, providing detailed visual information about buildings, land cover, and the surrounding urban environment. The road network data were obtained from OpenStreetMap and stored in vector format. These data describe urban connectivity and spatial organization and can be used to extract neighbourhood-level context or construct analysis units at different spatial scales. The POI data were sourced from Baidu Maps and cover the core urban areas of the mainland GBA cities, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), and the Macao SAR.

The data follow a three-level hierarchical classification system consisting of primary, secondary, and tertiary categories. Primary categories represent major types of urban activities, including catering, shopping, daily life services, government and social organizations, science, education and culture, medical and health services, transportation facilities, financial and insurance services, and companies and enterprises.

Secondary and tertiary categories provide more detailed descriptions of individual facilities and services. This hierarchical structure preserves fine-grained functional semantics and supports the identification of complex and mixed building functions. The building footprint data consist of polygon features delineating individual building outlines. They provide basic information on building location, shape, and spatial extent.Together, these datasets support building function recognition by combining fine-scale visual characteristics, urban accessibility and spatial structure, POI-derived functional semantics, and building-level geometric information.
