Replication data for Figs 15.2 and 15.3, BTPDs, Julian dates for copulation, parturition, and first juvenile emergences, 13 May 2026.

Listed in data.InDoRES

Dates shown here are Julian dates.

Description

Julian date of copulation = 71 = 12 March, for example. Julian date of first emergence of juveniles from natal burrow entrance = 145 = 25 May, for example.

Julian date of parturition = 84 = March 25, for example. These Julian data are for NON-LEAP years. Julian dates for leap years after 28 February differ by 1 day.

OLD File name = BTPDs, Copdates vs Partdates, Weanwts, 08 Oct 2020 I created this file from SYSTAT file = Copdates.sys, which I created on 06 Jan 1989 I assume that I checked the SYSTAT file TWO TIMES when I created it for my first book (Hoogland 1995) I will use 1981 BTPD data from this file to plot (a) date of copulation vs date vs parturition and (b) date of copulation vs date of first emergence of juveniles as evidence that copulatory partners from underground consortships were accurate.

See Figs 15.16 and 15.17 for this evidence. Date of copulation is obvious. Date of first emergence of juveniles = approximate date of weaning (see text) = date when juveniles first appeared aboveground at natal burrow-entrance.

Date of parturition = date when mother gave birth underground. Date of parturition was +- one day (see text). Litter size at first juvenile emergence = date when juveniles first appeared aboveground at natal nursery-burrow.

All data on same line are from THE SAME single litter/mother For some litters, I have data for all four variables. For others, I have data for only 1 or 2 variables. No eartags in this file, but all the data on the same line are from a single female in a single year.

I considered data from the same female in different years to be independent. Fig 15.3 shows means + one Standard Error = SEM Standard errors for Fig 15.3 were usually small, because my sample sizes year were large In some BTPD cases, I have shown SEM = 1.15 to show small SEMs that extend slightly beyond the circles— because showing slightly inflated SEMs is better than suggesting no variation at all, in my opinion. These data used for Figs 15.2, and 15.3 in Hoogland 2026.

This file ready for longterm storage on 12 March 2025. All data from single BTPD Rankin Ridge Colony at Wind Cave National Park Figs 15.2 and 15.3, BTPDs, Julian dates for copulation, parturition, and first juvenile emergences, 13 May 2026.
