Catalog of Landscape and Environment Scenes in the Southwest and North Palaces Reliefs at Nineveh (Neo-Assyrian Period, 704-681 BCE, 668-631 BCE)

Listed in Borealis

This catalog was compiled as a portion of a Masters thesis concentrated on the sensory environments created and maintained by two Neo-Assyrian kings, Sennacherib and Ashurbanipal.

Description

The catalog draws from foundational literature to compile all narrative reliefs from Sennacherib’s Southwest Palace and Ashurbanipal’s North Palace with reference to gardens, game parks, orchards, groves, marshes, fields, and plant destruction and collection.

Each reliefs slab entry includes the king who commissioned the work, room and slab number, a description of the narrative scene, and the Original Drawing (if applicable).
